The Society was incorporated under the provincial society’s act on February 28, 2001. The Tellqelmucw Secwepemc Heritage Society board of directors comprise of members within the First Nations of the Secwepemc Nation in the interior of British Columbia. Each member has extensive involvement with language speaking initiatives and has demonstrated a commitment to increasing language fluency levels.
This website creates a website focusing on the Secwepemc language and their vast territory in the south-central region of British Columbia. The Secwepemc language is one of Canada’s endangered First Nations languages. The traditional territory once included thirty bands and today seventeen bands now occupy this area of south-central BC. The “Virtual Journey” will provide interactive content, quizzes and games that focus on the language, the history of each area and contemporary community representations and cultural expressions of the Secwepemc.
The Tellqelmucw Secwepemc Heritage Society thanks the Gateway Fund for their funding and support. This project was made possible with the support of the department of Canadian Heritage through Canadian Culture Online.
